Testing...testing...one...two...zombie shane??

I'm taking a stab at zombie artwork for a possible zombie-related project. I decided to suit up, zombie out and take some photos of myself. I haven't nailed down my process yet, but it starts with photos and involves some xerography and then inking with a brush...and then some coloring with le photoshop. Have a look. Tell me what's working and what's not. This piece is still in progress.

I should add that there are hands which will be slightly out of focus in the foreground as if to suggest the viewer is fending off zombie shane. I've shot my hands. I just haven't drawn them.

Hmm, it all seems to be working so far. Maybe zombie Shane's skin is a little to slick and shiny though? Perhaps a bit of texture?

I like the eyes.

The off-kilter jaw rulez!

Lookin nice and undead there. I like the overall zombie-ness of the drawing, and the pink accents on the skin. I agree with Shobo that a zombie seems very fit for texture, maybe dirty up the suit a bit too, some stains and whatnot. Minor details though, the walking dead vibe is coming across nicely.

I'll jump on the texture bandwagon and add that maybe "roughening up" some your lines with a little dry-brushing might help with the decaying flesh business. But I may just be looking for an excuse to apply dry-brushing to everything.

Lookin' good Shane. If you want some reference for someone that does expressive brush work in the comics world, take a look at Jason Shawn Alexander's work on Abe Sapien. He's one of many of course, but one of my favs.

And yes that off kilter jaw is magic.
