This is my most recent Viewpoints cover illustration. The original was a woodcut that I struggled with because I haven't done one in a fabillion years. From this woodcut came several less-than-stellar prints which I chose the best of, scanned into photoshop, let it be it's less-than stellar self in black, and then made a layer beneath, increased the levels and noise, and then changed to sepia. Ultimately, it didn't turn out too badly...for a woodcut/photoshop hybrid.

It looks awfully fancy, very swank. I think it's great that they were willing to dedicate that much page space to artwork. So are you pleased with the results? Because you sound like you have mixed feelings about it.
Oooh, whoever designed that page should win a lot of awards.
Also, because I am apparently new to the internets, I clicked that godforsaken spam link before you deleted it. I'm glad you deleted it because I probably would have forgotten and clicked it again.
I like the illustration alot, however the story had more holes in it than the roof at the studio... bogus!
You can delete this comment if you need to. I understand you work at a newspaper and freedom of speech is the least of your concerns.
Nah...I'm not going to sensor my blog...unless someone gets offensive...and you're not. I take issue with a few points in the story as well. African-Americans weren't the only race to have been enslaved by the whities in the United States. Chinese immigrants were treated like absolute crap as well...and who can forget the Native Americans we displaced? I'm probably leaving out a lot of other people too. No, when it came to being shitty...some of our ancestors pretty much did it to everyone. That having been said...we're fortunate enough to be a generation that is somewhat detached from all of the negative things that have happened. I'm not saying we shouldn't look back. We should. We should and we should learn from it. But we shouldn't focus so much on what people are doing wrong. We should focus on what people are doing right. Encourage that. Foster it. I guess I'll stop here...for now.
