Oh...oh, how I've missed painting.

It's been a while. Every time I return to painting after a long hiatus...which always seems to happen right after I return to painting...I feel like I've actually forgotten HOW to paint. That wasn't the case this time. While, I didn't jump right back into my old groove I didn't flounder as much as I did the last time I returned. So...I'm planning a painting that I hope to get started on later this week. Good times. There are some moments I'm not crazy about in this piece, but time was running out and I had to just let some things alone. This week's painting will rock much harder.
Apologies to Tim Barnes. My love of your style is probably a little too obvious here. I'm not trying to rip off your awesomeness. I promise. For starters...I'd never come anywhere NEAR your awesomeness. For nexters...well...it's a little different...right? Don't answer that.

I saw this piece in sunday's paper viewpoint section! The police officer looking so ideal though in stark contrast to the MPD, which really made me laugh, I had in my high school years here in Memphis.

Looks pretty nice Shane, some very cool little moments like the girls hair and the inside of her collar. Cool composition too.

Katie,
It's always cool when someone tells me they actually saw something when it ran in the paper. It makes me feel connected to the outside world. I'm going to plea the 5th as far as the MPD goes. I will say, though, that this was less about whether or not the MPD would be appropriate in city schools, but whether or not an entirely new police service created for the school system by the school system would be a good idea.

Shobo,
Thanks! I enjoy the opportunity to work with more organic and less restrained compositions. I feel like I'm always just filling up space inside of a rectangle so it's nice to break out of that...box...once in a while. I owe you a follow-up email.
Also...last night I was cleaning out my aol mailbox and I have something from you that I didn't even know was in there. "cough!" I'm scared to open it now. It sounds so stern!

The children look like they trust him. They really shouldn't.
